True Blood Episode Recap S5 Ep11 “Sunset”
By
In this week’s true blood episode, we are seeing a real battle getting ready to explode between The Authority, particularly Bill, and Russell. Ah- this is why I love Russell; he never fails to entertain us! Personally, I don’t quite buy that Bill is completely enthralled by Lilith. But it makes sense for Erik and Bill to be once again on opposite sides of a question. Sookie is looking for answers, and maybe finding them. Jason is once again in danger, but when is our cute little blonde bimbo not in danger? He is like a male version of The Perils of Pauline. If you don’t know that reference, look it up in your movie references. But, let’s look more closely at what this week’s episode unfolded for us.
Lilith Awakening The Authority
It sure sounded like Bill may have gotten the nod from Lilith to lead The Authority in this true blood episode. In a scene at the beginning, she appears to him and tells him “only one can lead us and I choose you”. However, it feels more like a setup to bring The Authority down once we hear that everyone on the council got the same message from her. Just what is Lilith up to, if it is her at all? Something isn’t right here, and it is more than Bill losing his will as an individual that looks wrong.
Teams are Aligning
I am happy to see that in this true blood episode Nora has finally woken up to what is happening around her. Lucky for us, she celebrates by going to Erik and making nice in all the right ways with him. About time, I say. But how the two will escape is still something they will need to decipher. When you add Jessica’s arrival to this, we begin to see a line being drawn amongst the vampires. She came to talk to Bill, telling him how Jason is in danger. But it appears that he just isn’t interested in paying attention to Jason’s vulnerability right now.
Of course, Jessica isn’t buying that everyone in Bon Temps is just food, would you if it were the small town where you grew up? Why Bill doesn’t see her offer to turn Jason for the ruse it is to keep him safe I don’t know. But Bill’s decision to send guards with Jessica to make sure she does turn Jason is to no avail. Luckily our boy Jason happens to have some deadly wooden bullets to take care of the guards, then he is off to warn Sookie about Russell’s hunger for her fairy blood.
Meanwhile, for me one of the more shocking moments in this true blood episode is when a government official, looked like some kind of general to me, shows up at The Authority to threaten them. I guess they aren’t happy about what the consequences could be with the factories of Tru Blood blowing up. There is another little problem as well. It seems that a video was taken of Russell and Steve slaughtering a fraternity. He warns it will go viral and all humanity will rise up against the vamps, unless this kind of action is stopped right now.
He also tells them that the Pentagon has always been prepared for this kind of event, and they have weapons they will use if they have to, unless the vamps step down their actions. These are weapons that will wipe out all the vampires. But his threats are dismissed when Erik quickly moves up and snaps the general’s neck. Salome is not crazy about this, but agrees to let Erik go on a glamoring campaign, with Nora by his side naturally, to correct this little problem. Aha – a way out and a notching up of the battle to come in a future true blood episode between humans and The Authority.
Sookie and the Fairies
We saw a bit more of the fairies in this week’s true blood episode too, as Sookie heads out to talk to one of the Elders who might shine some light on the agreement Jason discovered last week. The Elder is telling her how there is a reason she is drawn to vampires and is about to tell Sookie who Warlow is. Suddenly Jason barges in to tell Sookie that Russell is looking for her. The Elder is shocked to hear that Russell is alive. There is obviously some bad blood between the Elder and Russell; since she is pretty angry he is alive. She even rallies the fairies to fight Russell when they aren’t sure they want this fight.
Unfortunately, once again Jason is the dupe to a vamp when Russell glams the boy while he is on patrol. Jason is forced to reveal where the fairy meadow is that is the portal to the fairy club; but finding fairies when they don’t want to be found is tricky! Finally, The Elder goes out to confront Russell on her own and tries to send him to “the realms beyond” but misses and it looks like she has sent Jason instead. Damn that boy for always getting in the way! When she tries to hit Russell again he moves too fast for her and instead manages to bite and drain the Elder fairy.
So now Russell has plenty of fairy blood, what he has been wanting from Sookie all along. Even worse, he has it from an elder fairy, so who knows how powerful he may end up being. But in this week’s true blood episode we are seeing the end result of this is that he can not only see Sookie, he can see the fairy club. He may have been let loose amongst the fairies!
Next Week – One More Before the Season Finale??
So we are left with several stories hanging in the balance in this week’s true blood episode. The Authority has been divided when Lilith told all the members that she has chosen them to lead, leaving us to wonder who Lilith really is. The werewolves seem to be in the background right now, with Alcide out chopping wood (and looking mighty good, I might add) at his Dad’s and discussing the role of a pack leader. The fairies are in real trouble with Russell loose amongst them, let alone the fairy that Andy had a little dalliance with showing up to tell him she is pregnant. Finally, I can’t help feeling that Erik is going to find a solution to The Authority, especially with Russell out of the picture for now.
So it looks like there are lots of loose ends to tie up and a couple of big confrontations on the way. Stay tuned for next week’s discussions on where this season may be ending.
