Take It Like A Vamp is a Lazy Summer Vampire Romance

Take It Like a Vamp by Candace Havens
What a delightful little find this vampire romance was! Nothing heavy, nothing dark really, just the perfect book to take to the beach or read on a long summer afternoon. Sometimes you find a vampire romance that is just good escape literature, kinda like a hot fudge Sunday for the eyes and heart. That is what Take It Like a Vamp is. The characters are fun and easy to get involved in; the story is the typical boy next door falls in love, with a vampire twist to it. But most of all it is just one of those books where you have fun following where the story will go, even if you think you know. Heck – you just want to tag along and see what is happening for yourself!
A Little Laughter Goes A Long Way
This is one of those vampire romance books where you will find yourself chuckling a bit as you read. You may even find yourself commenting to the book ‘ no- he didn’t! – from time to time. I think it is because you really like Casey and her vamp next door boyfriend/best friend Nick. Casey is just fun; she is smart and has a bit of a tongue on her, but she is also kind and generous. I loved that she was portrayed like a real person, with insecurities and all, just like the rest of us. And she has a wicked sense of humor.
Nick, on the other hand, well besides downright sexy he is also very loyal to those who deserve it, like Casey. He may come off as a bit of a controlling personality, but I think that is because he is such an alpha male, which is what makes him so hot.
But like Casey, he is not all full of himself, he has the ability to laugh and he does sometimes in the book do things that just make you wish you had a friend like him. This is really the strength of the book, that you like these characters and wish they were real.
Troubles Next Door
So they live next door to each other, and are the best of friends. There is of course that electric current between them, the thing that says they will go beyond to lovers some day. But they are also best friends and that is even sweeter. He loves the fact that Casey, unlike everyone else, doesn’t want a piece of him. He may be incredibly good looking, unbelievably rich and extremely powerful but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t need someone who will like him for just him. Casey is that person for him.
But then one night Nick asks Casey to go as his date to a dance. He is asking her as camouflage, and she knows it. He just wants to keep the match making mothers off his back for the night. What happens instead is that he soon discovers that he has put Casey in danger. For his ex-wife, and the other fellow vamps at the dance decide that Casey is just the tool to get to Nick.
And that, my friends is when you put down the Margarita and start reading in earnest.
Because then all the vampire romance action starts to heat up, Nick’s hot looking friend Linc shows up and we get to see some alpha male rescue where one thing can lead to another. Just check it out – grab this vampire romance and throw it in that beach bag for some summer reading. Take It Like a Vamp will be the perfect get away.
