This is the second book in the series, and this time Ryan Alexander is going through a frightening change. She knows that the root of her problems, the physical and mental battering she is constantly fighting is from the contact she has had with the one species she wishes she could avoid. The species are those that spawned her kind and continue to do so. She struggles to control her new found abilities and even more her memories of how the Old Ones came to be. What is more frightening is that as those memories come the memories that are hers begin to fade.
In Blood Legacy, even those that are closest to her have no ability to assist, and are forced to stand by helplessly as they begin to fear that she has become more of a liability to her own that a help. But worse, she finds that lately she has begun to see things, beings that no one else seems to see. She begins to fear she is losing her sanity or worse yet that they are a manifestation of her own guilt. Her captivity coupled with the torture she endured has had a toll and the blood contact may have been the worst of it all. She feels that she is changing deep within herself and wonders if the blood mutation that has created her vampire like symptoms are the cause. Can she be changing again, this time into a yet more fearful being?
Paranormal Romance Graphic Novels!
Posted by: | CommentsOkay- so I am a not very in the closet comic book geek. There I said it! It has been years since I stepped into a shop, but Amazon keeps me supplied quite nicely, thank you. And the amazing thing is, it doesn’t matter what you like, there is a comic that can suit your taste. Take paranormal romance, for instance. I have been getting into the genre since I started writing these reviews in the last few months, and decided to check out just what was around in the comic books world that fit that bill. Well, imagine my surprise when I found two of my favorite vampire series right there in a couple of great graphic novels!
If you are familiar with Anita Blake, you know that she is one heck of a gal in the Vampire Hunter series that Laurell K Hamilton writes. That girl can kick ass and ask questions later with the best of them! But then I discovered that Marvel has a Vampire Hunter series done in Manga style by Ron Lim and Jessica Booth. The graphic novel collection of the first five issues is out, and it looks pretty darn good. Anita is there, as is The Master of the City and all the gang we have come to know in the books. I highly recommend checking Vampire Hunter the graphic novel out if you can, because seeing it this way is such a kick!
The Dark Hunters series by Sherrilyn Kenyon is another one of those supernatural stories that has great women in it and even better has a comic book retelling of it! You know, it almost seems a natural to have these kinds of tales in this format. I have noticed that many of them are in the manga style of art, and that too makes a lot of sense. The art has a sensual side to it, but has a hidden power that fits this genre well. This series is from St. Martin’s Press. If you know the name you might be aware that like many book publisher, they have the last few years been expanding into graphic novels and this is one company that has done a great job of it. Claudia Campos does this manga style book and her art and storytelling is powerful here. They may have left out some of the more torrid love scenes as a nod to the younger audience in the Dark Hunter graphic novels, but none of the great story is left out.
So if you get a chance, you might want to look around and see what kinds of cool paranormal stories they are doing in comic book land these days. If you are aware at all, you know that right now is a real golden age for storytelling in that medium. There are some wonderful writers and artists doing some great books I hope to bring to this site soon. So stay tuned- and tell me if you spot some you want to share with others. Because hey – we all share a great discovery here, it is what this site is all about!
