Blood Vine by Amber Belldene, luscious vampire romanceBlood Vine by Amber Belldene

With a setting in a Northern California winery and a vampire versus hunter setup, what else could you call it but a luscious vampire romance worth every tasty sip? Perhaps the tasty treat is not apparent from the start but it definitely builds to something to appeal to a discerning palate very quickly.

I will admit that the sensual nature of the story is fairly dripping from the start, but it is the characters of Andre and Kos, the two Croatian vampires that are the center of this tale that captivates. The lovely Zoey becomes the crux that builds the story.

A Race in Peril

Refugees from the land that has long supported their survival, the vampire race have become few and feeble. They are a victim of the eradication of their kind by the Hunters in Croatia, and the disease that enfeebles them the longer they are estranged from their home. Most of their fellow vampires have scattered across the world, gone into hiding. Those few that are left are slowly aging and dying.

But Andre and Kos may have found an answer in what they have created by grafting vines from their homeland and developing a wine that somehow recreates the curing properties of their native soil. After twenty years of work, they have found the cure. But now how can they find their hidden brethren and let them know?

Hidden Agendas

This is where Zoey comes in. She is a hard-nosed practical PR specialist, and her boss Ethan has asked her to take on the new winery client. He tells them that the winery needs a branding specialist like her. What her boss, that she has been having a casual affair with for the last year, has not told her is that he is a Hunter, and knows the vineyard owners are his prey.

Love Walks In

But as soon as Zoey arrives she is shocked to realise that the new client Andre is someone she has met before. A year ago she had walked into a San Francisco bar and met him, almost went home with him. But something sad and very familiar in him stopped her. However, it didn’t stop her from dreaming about him almost every night since. What she doesn’t know is that Andre has never forgotten her or that almost connection they had. It has haunted him, and then she walks into his winery.

It is a formula bound to bring complications to an already complicated situation. For they can smell the Hunter on her, know that in some way she is bound to him. Their lives are in danger, she is somehow connected but they have to take the risk. They need her expertise to somehow reach out to the other vamps and tell them a cure has been found. A wine can be marketed to reach them and cure, if they can only find a way to tell those in hiding that it is here.

Danger Lurks

The blood races, the longing grows and the danger circles ever closer. Can Andre and Zoey trust this feeling, when both have been damaged by love before? Can they together find a way to save his people? And if they do, will it be enough to help them survive the Hunters plans?

Vampire Romance

This is a driven vampire romance that has all the luscious overtones and ripe body of a fine wine. The setting in a modern Northern California winery combined with the old world charm of the vampire’s native Croatia are a perfect complement to each other. Zoey’s need to stay above the call of her own needs and Andres sad loneliness beneath the charming exterior make you root for their love to take hold and grow. I hear they may be more, a series even perhaps. I sure hope so, because there are so many places this story go grow. You can get your own copy of this luscious and poetic vampire romance tale in either Kindle or paperback format.

My Familiar Stranger by Victoria Dannan, paranormal romance seriesMy Familiar Stranger by Victoria Dannan

This is one hot paranormal romance series and better yet, it is just the start of a great new fantasy series. The way author Victoria Dannan twists historical elements make a big impression on the story but of course it is the fantasy that makes it the paranormal romance series that it is. The story starts a little slow, but stay with it because it moves along quickly before you know it. I actually love that Dannan took the time to set up the rules for this world for us, because they are quite important as your move along into the story.

A Jolt of a Rescue

It all starts when Elora is rescued from what would have been certain death by being transported under duress to another dimension. She arrives there, bloodied and beaten and would have been killed as well in this new world if not for the intervention of Sir Storm of the Order of the Black Swan.  She soon discovers that where she has landed is in the middle of a top-secret military base. It is the headquarters of a hundreds-year-old secret society of vampire hunters. No wonder they wanted to kill her when she appeared out of nowhere!

Before you know it Elora finds herself deep in a new world, with elves and others all sworn to protect the world from vampires. Her rescuers are knights, and she soon is swept up in their world, and a discovery that she may not be quite the human she thought she was. For as she begins to help her rescuers to rescue others, she finds abilities she never knew she had.

Which Paranormal Romance Do You Pick?

The paranormal romance series has a love triangle that emerges between Elora and two of the knights Sir Storm and the Elf Knight Ram gets heated as the story progresses. This may not be Sookie considering Bill and Erik, but it has all the heartbreak and drama of it! Ram may be a six foot tall elf, but his ability to court Elora often goes astray. And Storm, well he is a knight whose heart must be won. But the three know that no matter how much the sexual tension rises, their first order of business is to protect their world from the menace of vampires.

Danger Abounds

The knights, with Elora as part of their band, head into Manhattan to get to the bottom of a series of missing persons they are certain is connected with vampires. Soon Ram is left badly hurt and Elora is betrayed by one she thought she could trust. Naked, chained to a jail wall, she must find help before the hungry vampires find her for their next meal.

Beginning of a New Paranormal Romance Adventure

This has all the right elements, adventure, romance and plenty of action mixed in as well. The world has been well laid out, and Dannan takes the time to settle us in first. Some have complained that it slowed down the story at the start, but with a parallel world, it is important to stake out your parameters and she does it well.

If you like your adventure with a dash of romance, this paranormal romance series is just the thing. It isn’t a pure paranormal romance series plot; the action and adventure drive the story too much for that. But for my money that is actually a plus. In addition, since this is the start of a new series I love that we were introduced to some pretty interesting (and hot looking!) knights so far. Let’s hope that My Familiar Stranger is just the start of many titles to come that introduce all the knights to us.

Elyograg The Gathering Series by Lorraine Beaumont, paranormal romanceElyograg – Book 1 – The Gathering Series by Lorraine Beaumont

This digital paranormal romance story is the beginning of a new series by Lorraine Beaumont and if it is any indication of the rest of the series, you may have to read this set with asbestos gloves! Man, this is one paranormal romance series that is really hot! Lorraine Beaumont has proven to us before that she can write a very exciting and fun series that centers on some hot romantic action with plenty of intrigue. She gives us lots of cool characters from mermaids and ghosts to vampires and werewolves. And yet, somehow even with this she does it by blending them into a story that manages to nicely side-step the worn clichés that you see in so much of the genre of paranormal romance these days.

Briar Cliff Township might look like any other picturesque New England town, but it harbors a dark secret. For much of the year it is indeed like so many of the little towns tucked away amongst the forests of the New England coast. But then the winds stir up old thoughts and old deeds along with old fears arise.

This is a story that veers in some non-traditional ways including a time-flow that can be a bit confusing at first but eventually becomes one of the best devices in the story to reveal the truth as it unfolds for us. I don’t want to say too much about the actual story; it would ruin it for you. But the pace keeps you following with rapt attention, the mystery will draw you along and the characters are so real you will be wondering if you were wrong in thinking that magic doesn’t actually exist.

Then there is the romance – the paranormal romance that centers the story and pulls you into its embrace like a lover you had forgotten how much you enjoyed kissing. There is mystery and more than anything there is the need to find out what dark secret lies at the core of it all. Elyograg is a paranormal romance for those who are not afraid of the dark.
