True Blood Ep 3_If You Love Me Why Am I DyinThe last episode of True Blood left Sookie looking fearfully at an avaricious Eric who could smell her fairy blood and, in episode four, his teeth drop down and he looks like he’s about to taste her. She panics and drives away but he just uses his vampire speed to keep pace and go after her.

Sookie’s next plan is to run away but that’s kind of silly – what vampire can’t catch a human running from them? When he zips in front of her, she hits him in the nose which surprises him and he says she broke it. Sookie’s response – “you’re a vampire, it’ll heal”. To which Eric replies, “I know I’m a vampire. I just don’t know who I am”. Sookie (who seems to never learn anything from her past dealings with Eric) states that she will help him figure out what happened but he’s got to do as she says which means no biting or touching. He meekly follows her.

When Eric stands at the door to Sookie’s house waiting to be invited in, you see a light bulb go off above her head – maybe he’s not faking it after all. He is constantly apologizing to her and he seems very shy and timid. She washes his feet and he looks down at her, telling her that she is beautiful. His feet are ticklish which is so unlike old Eric it’s throwing Sookie for a real loop.

Pam comes over after Sookie’s call and she’s shocked that he does not recognize one of his own “children”. The two of them decide that he will hide in Sookie’s house so that he will be safe but Pam has to pay her for her safekeeping services. She takes him to the cubby under her living room and he wants her to stay there with him. He wants to know what she is and for a minute, you think he’s not going to let her go. He goes into vampire mode and drops his teeth but then he looks very embarrassed and she leaves.

Bill is listening to Jessica talk about drinking from another man who was not Hoyt. Cheater. She’s really sad that she did it and when Hoyt is about to find out, she glamours him and he only remembers how much he loves her. That’s a slippery slope, to make somebody forget a bad thing every time you do it. I doubt these two will stay together. Once you start lying, cheating, and glamouring, it’s all over.

Tara wants Sookie to try and convince Eric that they had nothing to do with hurting him at the coven. She wants him to know that the cause of his problems is Marnie, not Tara, Jesus or Lafayette. Layfayette decides to visit Fangtasia on his own and ask for the vampire to forgive them – he’s not waiting for Sookie to intervene. When he gets there, he finds a very angry Pam who gives them one day to bring Marnie to Fangtasia.

Sam and Andy have a confrontation in the parking lot and Andy is getting out of control. His addiction to vampire blood is unmanageable and now he’s starting fights with the townspeople over nothing. He threatens to shoot Sam and actually pulls his gun out. Sam backs away and Andy leaves. Looks like Andy needs an intervention.

Sookie finds out that Debbie Pelt – her archnemesis – is alive and back with Alcide after she goes to visit him. Since Debbie tried to kill her when she was hooked on vampire blood, it’s quite understandable that Sookie does not want to be around Debbie – even if Debbie has completely changed her life. Nobody believes a convert.

Jason is starting his stud service in Hot Shot as Crystal comes in with her little magic blue pill and he takes it because he thinks it will help with the pain from all their werepanther bites. But, it’s really Viagra and he is being set up to start having sex with all the girls in the town. Even sex-lovin’ Jason is not liking this.

Eric leaves Sookie’s house and she can’t find him anywhere. Very concerned about his whereabouts, she sits at the house hoping that he will come back. Her fairy godmother appears in the front year begging Sookie to come with her back to Fairyland. As they are talking, Eric whips in from the side in a blur and takes her to the ground, drinking her blood like there’s no tomorrow. He kills the fairy godmother and as Sookie screams at him to stop, he looks up at her and tells her he’s sorry as the dead fairy melts away into dust.

Dead To The WorldSookie Stackhouse, a waitress in Bon Temps, Louisiana with the ability to read minds, isn’t too happy about her love life. Her vampire boyfriend Bill recently betrayed her trust – a fact that almost cost both of them their lives. Sookie hasn’t forgiven Bill his transgressions and quite frankly, doesn’t know if she wants their relationship to continue. So when Bill tells her he’s going to Peru to do some research for a secret project he’s working on for the vampire queen of Louisiana, Sookie’s actually a bit relieved. She needs time to think about the future of their relationship and having Bill underfoot doesn’t help.

But her solitary status is short-lived. While driving home one night she sees Eric, the vampire responsible for monitoring and regulating vampire activity in the area, running buck naked along the side of the road. Eric, the handsome, strong, calculating and always in control vampire would never put himself in such a situation. Sookie knows something must be wrong and pulls over to help. Sure enough, Eric has totally lost his memory. He knows he’s a vampire but he doesn’t know his name nor can he remember how he got to the side of the road.

Sookie persuades Eric to accompany her home so she can get him cleaned up and solve the mystery of his strange circumstance.

And thus begins the absolute best storyline in the entire Sookie Stackhouse fantasy book series to date.

You see, Amnesiac Eric is sweet, compassionate, caring, and thoroughly lovable. He harbors no grudges, has no hidden agendas and no longer adopts a dominant alpha male persona. He’s considerate, gentle, kind hearted, and sincere. Likewise Eric can’t remember Sookie from his previous life but is soon quite taken with her. You’ll have to read the book to find out what transpires between them but know this: after this book I became a solid Team Eric fan. Bill who?

As with all books in the Southern Vampire series, Sookie has to deal with several other problems: Sookie’s brother Jason has disappeared, a coven of dark witches have moved nearby and are working black magic, and Sookie discovers a dangerous new type of shifter living near Bon Temps.

In order to locate Jason, restore Eric’s memory and rid the area of the witches Sookie will need to rely on the supernatural community for support and protection.

Dead to the World has a strong, action-packed plot with believable and likable characters. It’s mystery will keep readers engaged and the romantic elements will keep the pages turning to the very end.

Dead to the World can be purchased from my favorite store in hardcover, paperback, and ebook formats.

Living Dead in Dalllas“Living Dead in Dallas”, the second book in the Southern Vampire Mystery series starts with Sookie, a sassy telepathic waitress working in Louisiana, finding a friend and co-worker’s body in the back seat of a car. If that isn’t enough, Sookie gets attacked while walking through the woods after having a fight with her vampire boyfriend Bill. Close to death, Sookie is taken to Fangtasia, a nightclub owned by sexy vampire Eric Northman, where her life is saved. However, in Eric’s world favors aren’t given without a price: he requests that Sookie travel to Dallas to find a missing vampire. Sookie agrees and she and Bill set off for the big city.

In Dallas we learn of a radical organization called The Fellowship of the Sun, whose mission is to “help” vampires atone for their sins. Sookie’s search for the missing vampire soon puts her on their most wanted list and that’s where the suspense and adventure begin. Sookie learns that some humans are almost as calculating and deadly as vampires. The suspense builds to a fever pitch as Sookie uses her wits and her body to fight for her life.

Amid lots of fast-paced action and adventure the romance between Sookie and Bill continues to blossom. Bill’s the perfect Southern gentleman who’s sincere feelings for Sookie are sweet and touching. He’s a great character and his relationship with Sookie is intensifies in this book. But let’s not forget hunky vampire Eric Northman who may appear cold and uncaring on the surface but clearly harbors some level of attraction for Sookie.

This book has it all: suspense, adventure, fantasy and romance. It’s also pretty darn funny. One of the last scenes in the book has Eric accompanying Sookie to an “adult” party and I have to tell you, I laughed until I cried. I’ve read that scene over and over and it never fails to amuse.
Charlaine Harris has created a wonderfully entertaining story that’s charming, clever and a joy to read. If you love well written fantasy you’ll love this book.

You can purchase Living Dead In Dallas from online retailers and local bookstores.

But the Best Deal is to purchase the Sookie Stackhouse Box Set which includes Books 1-8 in the series.
