Title: Immortal Touch
Author: Ethan Peasley
Release: February 15, 2012
Pages: 180
Genre: Historical Vampire
We begin our journey in Rome, the ancient Rome of gladiators and slaves. This is where we meet Asael, at the beginning of his journey from human to vampire. In the beginning he drinks blood with ecstasy, like many new vampires. But in time it becomes simply the way he stays immortal. And unlike in other vampire tales, he is not bored with his life or ready to quit it at any time. But he struggles with it, none the less.
For Asael had been a failed warrior, sold into slavery and condemned to fight as a gladiator for his owner. When the opportunity came for his change, he took it gladly and killed his master. Now, although haunted by old memories, he is surrounded by his companions. Mordecai is a gentle soul, and makes his companionship easier to bear. Nafretiti contains a spirit of great passion, one that can at times bring danger to the coven of vampires. The fourth member, Cain, leads them with his ancient wisdom. Together they are ready to change the face of humanity.
We watch the centuries pass them by and as time flows on and empires rise and then crumble, Asael sees a pattern emerge of an evil aristocrat who is pulling the strings behind the curtain of death. He is determined to hunt down and confront this ancient evil one, and when he does he finds the truth. The question is, can he take his dark sympathy for the humans he lives amongst and use this truth or must he reject it?
This is an amazingly well told tale, with a vampire that is both recognizable as our modern versions and yet still has so much of the old vampire darkness from ancient tales. Peasley has taken his love of vampire lore and strong storytelling skills and given us a totally new look at the concept of the undead. In Immortal Touch we have a new generation of vampire stories to look forward to, as he creates a bold vision of what it means to be immortal.
Best Vampire Books: Latest Sookie Audiobook Recorded
Posted by: | Comments
For those who have been enjoying the audiobooks for the series True Blood, Johanna Parker is the voice of Sookie Stackhouse. Parker gives voice to the plucky waitress in the best-selling Southern Vampire Series, who has been the narrator for all of the books in the series. The latest audiobook Deadlocked continues the tradition.
The actual recording of Deadlocked was a lengthy process, involving a week of studio time. With the completion of the twenty hours of recording, the book will be edited down to approximately ten hours of final material for release on May 1st.
The book was recorded in San Francisco at the famed Live Oak Studios. Actress Johanna Parker was behind the decision to move the recording to this location after directing Alice Walker there for the recording of the audiobook for The Color Purple. The staff expertise and most of all the sound quality were the driving factors to move the recording of the True Blood books to the location.
Parker began recording the adventures of Sookie with the fifth book, Dead as a Doornail in 2005. The television show True Blood brought new popularity to both the books and the audiobooks, creating a need for continuity in the audiobooks. At that point, Parker went back and recorded all the earlier titles as well.
She has since become the voice of Sookie for a legion of new fans brought in by the television show. In fact, her voice is so connected to the character and the series that she will often tour with author Charlaine Harris, adding her own narration of excerpts from the books to Harris’s talks about the process of writing.
Parker has told interviewers that she has been overwhelmed by the popularity of the series, even receiving fan mail for her work on the audiobooks. The character is one that connects deeply with many readers and listeners, and Parker’s voice with her wide use of inflection and tone seems just the right touch for many fans.
