I love this series! I got hooked on Tru Blood on HBO. I started reading the novels last month and am hooked! I am on book 10 already, and am clearly obessed! Hopefully book 10 is full of sexy Eric! yummy

  2. Kate says:

I love these books that much that I have read the 10 books more than 15 times. Can you please tell me if there are more coming, I realy hope there are more.

    • Jackie says:

I am so happy to see someone else has read these books more times as I have. Books 11 has a May 3, 2011 release date and you can read chapter 1 on Charlaine’s web site. Like you I did not discover the books until after I was hooked on True Blood. I think I am glad it happened that way because characters in my mind never look like the actor. Now I can not imagine Eric Northman looking like anyone but Alexander. I don’t even think I could have imagined anyone who looks more like Eric. If Charlaine separates Eric and Sookie who, based on the choices in books 1-10 would you want her to end up with? Since you seem to be as obsessed as I am (reading the same books 15 times has to be an obsession) I would love to discuss them with you. I have friends who watch True Blood but I have no friends who know the books. My email address is jackiecfrye@hotmail.com

      • Saleitha says:

        Hey
I just thought I would write and tell u that and tell u that I have read all the books many many many times as well…write back

      • Kelly says:

I want her to end up with eric!!!

      • ANGIE says:

I ALSO GOT HOOKED BY WATCHING HBO TRUE BLOOD. I HAD SOMEONE OFFER TO LET ME READ THE BOOKS ONCE BEFORE AND I TURNED THEM DOWN. AFTER WATCHING TRUE BLOOD SEASON 1 AND 2, I REALLY GOT INTO THE BOOKS AND COULDN’T PUT THEM DOWN. I ALSO GO SEVERAL OF THE PEOPLE I WORK WITH INTERESTED IN THEM AND NOW WE ARE ALL HOOKED. I DON’T GET HBO SO I AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR THE SEASON 3 TO COME OUT ON DVD IN MAY 2011 AND ALSO THE NEXT BOOK. MY BIRTHDAY IS IN MAY SO I’M MAKING BOTH OF THESE MY PERSONAL BIRTHDAY GIFT.

        • Carabeth says:

Project free tv has season 3 and 4 as they are broadcast to watch you just have to deal with adds etc

        • Natnat says:

I watch them online here is the link if you want it… oh and its free to watch u just have to be careful with link u use, i suggest putlocker if it is one of you choices.

      • ren says:

      • April F says:

I am addicted to True Blood and now I am looking to read the books. I will have to start getting them ASAP!! I will prolly read these books over and over like I did with the twilight series! CANNOT WAIT!!!!

      • Meghan says:

I am so happy to read other peoples comments about this series.. I hate to admit this but when my friend told me about these books and let me borrow the her personal set of the series I very skeptical. She said you have NO IDEA HOW GOOD THESE BOOKS ARE! She was soooooooo right! I cant even begin to explain how right she was. I can’t believe I almost didn’t read this series! I love it so much and read them all one right after another. I finished them very quickly and am wishing their were more!

        • webwriter02 says:

Thanks for the comment Meghan- I was just like you. Didn’t know what I was missing. They are hard to explain, you just have to hand someone the books. Thanks for reading and for being part of our little TB community!

    • robyn says:

i am in love with this series. i read it all the time. i hope sookie stays with eric.

  3. Samantha says:

I LOVE this series. I’m a little upset with how much True Blood changes the books but it’s good as well. I recommend this series often. I can read it multiple times.

    • Jackie says:

Since True Blood has changed the books so much I think of it as additional stories about some of my favorite people. I am looking forward to season 4 with trepidation. I am sure ther are going to be so many changes and additions we might not even recognize it as book 4.

  4. Chasity says:

When do I need to read each short story book to keep up?

  5. Katie says:

I’m new to the series, but as a lover of True Blood I’m super excited to start them. I’d also like to know when I need to read the various short stories in order to stay on track; does anyone know when they need to be read so we won’t be left behind?

  6. Rameka says:

I got hooked on the Sookie Stackhouse books Years ago before the HBO series even came out. I don’t watch the series because i hate how much the series deviates from the books. There is a new book coming out May 3rd Called Dead Reckoning. I have not read the short stories because i am afraid that they will deter too much from the original plot. Can anyone tell me if it’s a good idea to read the short stories also.

If you love the Stackhouse series I would recommend the Meridith Gentry series by Laurell K. Hamilton BUT BEWARE it is A LOT more vulgar and X Rated. Also the House of Night series by P.C and Kristen Cast

    • Cheryl says:

Try the Midnight Breed novels, too, written by Lara Adrian.

    • Stephanie C says:

The short stories subliment the time between books. They fill in the gaps so to speak. Very useful info. I would definately read.

    • Kym says:

If you like this series try The Lords of the Underworld by Gena Showalter (not vampires but Demons), Night Huntress – Cat Crawfield novels by Jeaniene Frost, or one of my Favs The Brotherhood by JR Ward. If you want any other good read ideas I have a very large collection.

      • webwriter02 says:

You are so right Kym- we have reviewed these on some of our other sites and should be showing off some other great books here soon. Great suggestions, by the way!

  7. PharmGirl says:

I know that the short story in Bite is between Definitely Dead & All Together Dead.
I am very interested to know where the rest of the short stories fall into place as well.

    • Gwyn says:

I am hooked on these books too, though I don’t have HBO and don’t watch True Blood.

Powers of Detection takes place after the events in Dead to the World. Many Bloody Returns is next, before Dead as a Doornail. Bite comes after Dead as a Doornail. Unusual Suspects comes after All Together Dead. Wolfsbane and Mistletoe takes place before Dead and Gone.

This information was gleened from the introduction to A Touch of Dead written by Charlaine Harris. This book compiles all five of the stories listed above in one book.

      • Tracey says:

So, A touch of death is the last mini stories? I don’t have HBO..so I don’t watch the series. I’m also afraid to watch it and spoil the images I have of the characters. If I had to choose a replacement for Sookie..it would be Bill…I really like him he would die for her. Then Quinn and Alec. I think that the author should explore bringing out more of Sookie’s fairy side. It would be interesting to see how the Vamps would react to her and if she can surpress it just to be with Eric???

  8. Vessie says:

I have read all the books various times and I still love them. A friend of mine got me hooked on them. I hate that the series TruBlood doesn’t go more by the books-but it’s still a good series. I have read a few of the short stories and they’re good but you don’t need to read them to know about the characters. The author lets you know alot about them from the series. I can’t wait for the new book to come out, I just wish there were more.

  9. Jamie says:

One day i stumbled upon the box set of the sookie stackhouse books on the chapters website. It was odd because i just felt the impulse to buy them even though i didn’t know anything about them. i did and when they arrived i could not put them down!! i have just finished the 8th book. The last one in the box set unfortunately.. and i am going to go straight out and get the rest!! I started watching the show as well and i loved it! again i agree with all the fans of the book that it is disappointing that the show doesn’t follow the book exactly, but at least it makes more surprise for us! I love how this site makes a list of the books and the short stories so i can know what to go out and get next. Are the short stoires any good? I still have to watch season 3 of the show. I love true blood!!

  10. Sue says:

I find it interesting what the script writers use from the books – we already know things the characters don’t know until much later in the book series and yet, Eric has yet to stay at Sookie’s house. Because the book stories only happen from Sookie’s point on view it was necessary to ‘flesh out’ the other characters -pardon the pun – and I can see the point of amalgamating two characters (for instance Franklin Mott and the psychotic Mickey) but keeping alive a dead minor character I must admit I’m not sure about. If the script writers are willing to do that, what else might they change? Bill gets a bit sidelined in later books, will they be willing to let Eric become more important in Sookie’s life? Anyway, it’s a whole lot of fun finding out and that’s the main thing! I have a friend who wants to borrow the books after I’ve read them and I think I am going to be unable to let go of Dead to the World… as Sookie says, Yum!

  11. heather says:

I LOVE the series then I read the books the books are SO much better. I wish the show was as good as my imagination. It took me 3 days to read the whole set all the way through 10. I could not put them down then I read the 4 more times can’t wait till May 3rd, then not much later the series starts up again too its so good. Thank Charlaine Harris for renewing my love of reading and vampires!

  12. Roxanne says:

Just started reading these books!! Does it reiun the stories if you read the short stories first?

  13. i was so hooked when i read the firt book now i watch true blood on Hbo http://www.hbo.com
i also hope sookie stays with eric hes just hot hot

  14. Kara says:

I read the books first then the HBO series…
have to say that i liked the books best!

  15. Racheal says:

I just started reading the books 2 days ago I Can’t put them down I am already on book 3 and I am exhausted it seems I am addicted I stay up most of the night which is strange because I have only read one other vampire series and sookie puts her to shame

    • BilDen7278 says:

me too! Book 6..day 4…it’s so much more fun to read at night :) good luck and know youre not alone!

  16. sammy says:

hi ive read these books and couldnt put them down i would have liked to see sookie with alcide as hes a dish lol tho must say eric in the series on fx is exactly who i imagine him to be in the books tho after reading dead reckoning im convinced she is going to end up with sam also if you like these books i would recommend you try the antia blake series by laurel k hamilton these to are a very good read tho they are x-rated i dont have friends who read these books but if anyone would like to discuss such books please add me on pixie2107@hotmail.co.uk

  17. Silver Gold says:

The True Blood Series on HBO is Brillint up to Dead Reckoning but I HATE that Harris writes short stoiries that are not included in the main series of books. I got so mixed up when I tried to read them. Great book but hey! She needs to stop with the short stoires because I AM CONFUSED!

  18. Tracy Beam says:

I started reading them before HBO picked it up. I was disappointed with their title, but it did grow on me.
    Love these books :-)

  19. jojo88 says:

day 2 book 5! and I have a toddler so it is quite an achievement… I am hoping that her other books are as good as the sookie stackhouse series!!!!

  20. Emithly says:

I love these books and found them when i started watching true blood but now i hate the tv program (for one their teeth are in the wrong place), and i love the books. just finished dead in the family. And just to go with everyone else i actually want her to end up with Bill. he’s lovely no matter what mistakes he made in the past.

  21. reignbeau says:

    hi.
i am trying to read all of the books in order, including the additional short stories about Sookie Stackhouse. Is there any particular order in which I should read those books? And how should I integrate them with the other books?
any recommendations would be appreciated :)

    thanks!

  22. Julia says:

I got hooked on the HBO series about a month ago. I just found out yesterday that the series was based on books.(so I’m a little slow.) Now I’m going to start reading the books, which from most books I read and then watch a movie of it, the books will be much better. Just wanted to say love the HBO series and can’t wait to start reading.

  23. Sue says:

I love the books. Hate when the last one ends and can’t wait for the next one. Didn’t know about the short stories. So, there’s only five, and the above stated is the correct order to read them in?

I hated the second season of True Blood because they changed too much of it. But I do like that they have kept Lafiet in the series.

  24. Lucy Cifuentes says:

So I have finished Dean Reckoning…Does anyone know when the next book will be coming out???

  25. kayjenx says:

I started reading the books about 4 weeks ago, and i don’t have the time to be reading all night or all the time. But my fiance says i’m addicted and i only read like 1-2 hours the most. I am on book 2 almost done. I hope Sookie goes with Eric i just feel like she doesn’t really love Bill and Eric is much more sexy.

  26. Laura says:

Love true blood and the books, totaly hooked.Could someone please leave a comment and tell me the order of all the books available and when the next one is due to be out in the UK? if so thanks!
    :)
p.s Sookie and Eric all the way!!

  27. Stephanie says:

Ive read them up to the 9th one. Is the 10th one worth buying?

Another thing, I have a great imagination and i (before watching the show) had started reading the books and once i got to know the characters a bit, I put faces to these characters. My own created… AND they fit perfectly. I wanted to see what the hype about TrueBlood was all about and i must say, it TAINTED my self created characters. Eric is NOT sexy in the show. Bill is…. ridiculous. and Sookie, she just seems plain dumb. I havent watched it since the first episode. Thumbs WAAAAAAAy down on that show.
The books though…. I read them in 3 days. HOOKED.

  28. Amber says:

I absolutely LOVE the HBO series and I would really love to read the books. I am definitely not impressed with the kindle prices. You can buy the whole 8 book set for $63 or each one individually for $8. What kind of sense does that make? Amazon should really rethink their pricing. Im dying to read these books so not sure if I should break down and spend the money for the kindle version or go back to old school and get the actual books.

  29. Kayla says:

I’m in love with these books. I started reading them way before they started making it a TV show so up until this season I knew everything that was going to happen. Although now they’re mixing it up so it’s a lot different.. I’m curious who will die for Sookie in the epic faery battle.. but whatever, I hope she at least stays with Eric. He’s the perfect guy none of us can have :P

    lilshawty191@yahoo.com
if you wanna reply you’ll have to reply in email since it’s unlikely I’ll ever return to this site.. enjoy the books. Can’t wait for the next :)

  30. Jasmin says:

Ohh, my god I am only on book 9! I am in love with the series, if any of you guys know how many books there are so far please tell me!

    e-mail me @
    teamnickjj@hotmail.com

  31. michelle says:

This is the first place I have ever known of someone to know who Laurell Hamilton is! I love her. Going to start this series as soon as I done with what I’m reading now. Can’t wait after all these good reviews!

  32. Lorena says:

I just need to know which short story belong to which (or between which) books! Its very confusing! Do u know where I can find that explanation?

  33. Chelsea C says:

I love these books, don’t get me wrong, but it does kind of bug me when Charlaine Harris makes simple mistakes between the books… In the first book, Charlsie Tooten’s husband is Ralph, then later is Micah, then back to Ralph… In the 4th book when Jason is missing, his boss is Shirley “Catfish” Hennessey, but in the 5th, he’s Shirley “Catfish” Hunter. And the flames on Jason’s truck are pink and aqua most of the time, but once or twice she says they’re pink and purple… I don’t know if anyone else noticed these things, but it kind of detracts from the brilliant way they’re written when there are some discrepancies.

  34. Chelsea C says:

Also, in regards to my above comment, shortly after noting that fairies are severely allergic to lemon, she says Claudine orders a 7 and 7, which includes 7-up as well as lemon garnish…

  35. MCarter says:

I just finished the 11th book. Is that the last one? It leaves so much unanswered!! I am dying, I want to know what happens next!!! Will there be more?

  36. kim r. says:

i’m so happy to see that i’m not the only eric fan!!!! i love him, but it’s his personality, not his looks i like lol! so happy a new book is coming, so sad we have to wait almost whole year. what i’m wondering is who is going to discover hunter and what dangers await him?

  37. Kim says:

I’m new to reading the books and I just finished “Dead to the World” and immediately started reading “Dead as a Doornail”. I’m a quick reader and maybe since I’ve taken it in within such a short time frame….

Does anyone else notice that Charlaine Harris isn’t a consistent writer. Jason’s boss, Shirly “Catfish” – his last name changes from Hennesy in Book 4 to Hunter in Book 5. I’ve noticed other discrepencies here and there but I’m a stickler for details.

As much as I love the books, one thing that bothers me (and it may be my personal preference) but Harris pretty much re-explains everything within the first few chapters. Sookie’s mind reading, what shifters are, blah blah blah. Waste of time. I understand touching base to remind those who didn’t read the books on top of another but it just seems very redundant.

    • Clarissa says:

I understand what you mean! I wonder if anyone else noticed that Maxine went from being Hoyt’s grandmother to his mother…

    • Kim says:

I’ve also noticed there are small changes in spelling. In one book a word might be hyphenated and in the next it may be all one word for example.

Another thing I’ve noticed, is the intensity of things. It seems the further in the series I read, Sookie can read more into shifter’s minds. At first she really couldn’t read anything other than moods. Now she can get complete thoughts. I know it varies from person to person but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Also, I’ve just noticed when Sookie & Quinn are going into the Were bar and there’s a spell, Sookie seems to be repelled by it when in the instance of the Witch War, she wasn’t really. She noticed it but she didn’t have such a strong reaction to it.

As much as I love the books and the story line, I have to say, Harris’s writing style is not my favorite.

  38. Andrea says:

I have to say I started to watch the show before I every knew about the books. I fell in love with the show as soon as I started to watch it…. but Omg…. I love the books even more then the show…. I couldn’t put them down… as soon as I got done with the 1st one I went and got the next three… I have to say they are a great series… and yes Eric is very yummy…. (even on the show ;) )

  39. p. Sky Bellefleur says:

I am SO HOOKed on the books and the HBO series! My hubby and I hold our breath between shows and we watch all the marathons and reshowings of episodes whenever we can obsessively!

I grew up in New Orleans and in Louisiana so it is a visit home for me. I adore Eric but have a soft spot for Bill & Sam…Alcide is just pure WOWWWWWWWWWW!!!
Still…I LOVEEEEE me some Viking vampire! Yes MIss Sookie, you have excellent taste and I LOVE your spunk! I am smilin all the time and I do NOT mind being obsessed. :) Sky

    • Brittany says:

I’m from LA too, but right across the causeway. :D I too adore Bill and Sam. I’m just starting in the books so I don’t see how yummy everyone says Eric is yet, but I am up to date on the show and I must say Bill messed up but I’m still rooting for him….

  40. Reece says:

Happy to find this website for TrueBlood fans! I am a bonafied trubie. Started watching True Blood last season (season 3)and I was instantly hooked, which was strange because I was NEVER one who watched vampire shows. I impatiently wait for Sundays to watch TrueBlood. Just started reading the books (Now on book 2) and i am TOTALLY HOOKED. Team Eric to the end! Alexander Skarsgard does a FANTASTIC job at playing Eric. It’s as if the part was written especially for him… I love me some Eric and Sookie.

  41. Tina says:

I love the Stackhouse series. I’ve always heard of how good the tv show True Blood is but I don’t have cable so I decided to read the books instead and I am hooked!!!! I was into book #4 when I saw the True Blood tv show for the first time.. I couldn’t get into because it seemed so different from the book with the roles of Tara and Lafayette. I only was able to watch 4 episodes before I gave up on the tv show. But I still love reading the books and now I’m on book #10.

  42. Tina says:

I’ll be sad when I finish reading book #11 because there aren’t any more books in the series (at least not yet…). Does anyone know of any other cool or similar books?

  43. liz says:

I love the show sooooo much.. But I have never looked at the first book but im fixing to buy one now.. Because I dont like to read but im fixing to start..

  44. Lawisha says:

I have Not yet started reading the series, but I LOVE the show! How true is it to the TV series? I know there’s a few changes like Lafayette is alive when he dies in the book, but does it stay pretty true to the story line? Would I be missing anything if I started the books where this TV season left off?

    • Lindsey says:

I’ve just got to Absolutely Dead and they’ve changed so much from the books, although following the basic story line from it, in True Blood, that I can’t imagine how they will work it all out with the TV series. Sophie Ann is alive and well for example, and Bill is no where close to being king in the books… But I’m loving both!

  45. Mike says:

I am starting Dead In the Family now. At same time I am watching Trueblood Season 3 and am halfway through that. I had seen glimpses of recent seasons before I started watching Trueblood from Season 1 and wasn’t suprised by some of the differences. I see now there are ALOT of differences. It seems the character names and city names are only thing that seem to be consistent with the books. That being said, I still enjoy them and look forward to watching further seasons as well as reading book 11. I intend to start on the “Grave” series next.

I watched the first season of TrueBlood from Netflix on a whim and fell in love with the show. I didn’t realize the series was based on a book until I got an Ereader for my birthday and was browsing ebooks. I was definately hooked after the first book. I am a serious Anne Rice fan, I like the Sookie Stackhouse series because the books are funny and an easy read.

I LOVE True Blood the TV series!!! I am totally addicted, and dream of Eric biting me constantly….having said that Alcide is OMG HOT!!
I think I’m going to start reading the books, although if they are really different to the TV series, I might be dissapointed.
    Eric……DELICIOUS!

Ha- Natalie you are so right on. But you know, now that you have that picture in your head of Eric, he can be yummy all the time when you read the books!

  50. Astriegel says:

I may be the only one, but I love how the series is different from the books. I was hooked on the television show for the first four seasons before I even heard of the books. I’m afraid to read ahead of book four though because I don’t want to ruin the show.

    • Jasmine says:

I too love the difference. I didn’t start to read the books until the end of Season 4. I needed something to carry me through the season but considering I’ll be starting Book 10 today, I think I’ll still need something to fill the gap. The TV series takes a little bit from each and every book it seems so reading parralel to watching really will only enhance. It gives you a clear face for the names in the book.
