For the star of a paranormal romance mystery, Max is a practical down-to-earth kind of woman. She is an accountant who doesn’t believe in the supernatural except for one wrinkle, she is psychic. At first it was simply the spirit of her husband Cameron that haunted her, and she really didn’t mind that. He had been dead two years now, killed by a 7-11 robbery gone bad when he went out for a pack of cigarettes. She always said those things would kill him, she just didn’t think it would happen this way.

But now Max is having dreams that are more than just dreams. She dreams of a woman’s death, and realizes when she awakens that she was actually seeing this woman being murdered. She knew just where it took place and how it happened, what she doesn’t know is exactly who did it and why.

 Paranormal Romance Detectives

But Max knows that she is more than haunted by a bad dream. She feels wrong and soon realizes that the spirit of the dead woman is inside her – she is possessed. But, as Max says, we have all seen the movies so we know what has to happen next. She has to find who killed the woman and bring him to justice. The trouble is this isn’t exactly easy, especially with a dead husband nudging you on to solve the mystery.

But Max is nothing if not resourceful and finds a way to get hired by the company where the woman worked to see if she can find out who might have killed her. Slipping into the woman’s life is not that hard, the hard part will be connecting the dots. But with Cameron’s help, and the aid of a hunky detective working on the case, she just may be able to solve this one and get this dead woman’s spirit out and on her way.

Erotic and Mysterious

Dead to the Max is the first of a four-part paranormal romance mystery series that has a good bit of erotica thrown in for good measure. And I do want to point out that while the erotic bits are fairly graphic, they belong in the story and to my mind they are not in the least gratuitous.

Max is a charming character, and her husband is a great foil for her “tough as nails” exterior, since he knows that she is much more of a softy then she likes to let on. The romance between these two is one of the more endearing qualities of this series, for Max and Cameron are the quintessential doomed lovers. She misses her husband’s touch, and he can only come to her in her dreams, which he does in great and sensual detail.

If you love a good mystery, enjoy the paranormal atmosphere and aren’t afraid of a bit of graphic sex in your stories to spice them up, then Dead to the Max might be just the ticket to a bit of sensual old fashion paranormal romance murder mystery fun.
