This is a vampire book that really does go beyond what we normally see in one of the vampire romance books. The characters are complex and the story has twists and turns that lead you on. But best of all, the story has characters you care about, and care about long before any sexual turnings or vampire sightings happen. Sarah can’t explain it, but somehow the dark lord Davinoff does something to her that both chills her and thrills her when she meets him in sunny Sienna. But when he shows up with the deed to her ancient family home, she knows something evil is happening. But the best character by far is Sarah’s best friend, Corinne. You love to hate her, and yet she is a twisted bit of craziness that you can’t completely blame for what happens next.
In Sacrament author Susan Squires takes us on a journey that includes not only lust as well as romance, but also the dark side of friendship and a heavy dose of the gothic vampire tale that is also more at home in a Georgian romance story. This is a true delicious tale for curling up with on a dark winter night.
