The great thing about The Ariel Saga, beside the lovely new paranormal romance that is the heart of the story, is that you actually get two stories in one great book. Although they do in the end come together you will find that half the fun is finding out how. As you can well imagine, Ariel is the main character, and like many young adult new paranormal romance stories, she is a young woman who meets someone who is not quite what they first appear to be. Ariel is in high school, a bit shy and living your everyday teenage life. One day she meets a new guy at school and, you guessed it, he is unbelievably gorgeous and instantly attracted to her.

A New Paranormal Romance Fiction Concept

But this is where the similarities to a certain very popular book and movie end. Yes, there is romance and the thrill of finding out about Michael, the new guy who just seems to make her whole day brighter. What is more amazing is that as she begins to spend more time with him, she finds that she is changing physically into a more attractive version of herself. Her skin clears up, her hair is perfect and she becomes flawless! She doesn’t know or understand why but somehow it has something to do with Michael.

Of course, there is always something to create tension and this story has plenty starting with a killer who is claiming that he knows “what” Ariel is. But then, we would like to know this too, wouldn’t we? And we get some clues, but they come through the second story. It takes place back in 1250BC and tells us the tale of Kreios who is a fallen angel.

This is a beautiful story of family love, for Kreios has a wife and little daughter that he loves dearly. But his wife dies and he now knows he must do everything he can to protect his daughter. The story of Kreios is filled with his love for his daughter and his need to protect her from danger. As we read it we begin to put the puzzle pieces together so that by the end of the book you have all your clues, and the reasons for all the dangers.

New Paranormal Romance Has Humanity

I don’t want to give anything more away but I do have to say that the writing is really great. Ariel is spunky; she doesn’t sit around waiting for Michael to solve everything for her. This may be one of the new paranormal romance books, but it is not filled with helpless females. Even with the amount of pathos in the plot, there is humor and plenty of humanity to the characters. I am amazed that two men can write a story from a young girl’s point of view and make it sound so convincing.

You will be cheering for Ariel all through this book and find yourself, like me, looking forward with great anticipation to the next chapter in this story: Michael. I have heard it is to be out soon, and I anticipate it will be as satisfying to read as this one. Whether you are 16 or 60, you will love The Ariel Saga, a simple new paranormal romance that tells a very satisfying tale.
