Fantasy Sookie Mashup Challenge

Unless you live under a rock somewhere in the middle of a desert you may have noticed that fantasy and science fiction have really grown to have a tremendous acceptance as part of literature these days. They are certainly a lot more accepted than they were twenty or thirty years ago, or even ten years ago. But even though there are more publishers putting out genre books, in fact the romance genre sells quite well these days, there are still enough publishers out there that continue to see any kind of genre as not true literature.
But when it comes to popular culture and it’s cousin, television, our two favorite genres seem to be doing quite well. But with all the popularity of vampires and paranormal novels, and the seeming acceptance of science fiction as an accepted part of storytelling, I still think that most people can be lumped into two categories: people who read and love genre stories, and those who don’t. My family is a good example as we are all avid readers, and although we all read different genres, we do seem to all love genre fiction.
So if you love genre like the ones we cover here, you might just read some other genres as well. In fact, the same may go for writers too. How often have you read a book that is classified as fantasy and seen a cross-over with another genre? I have noticed some books when doing reviews that seem to cross over from fantasy to westerns or romance or even science fiction. The Demon Series by Diana Rowlands which I will be featuring at Best Fantasy Stories, our sister site, for the month of January is a good example of a science fiction/fantasy cross.
So even if our poster gal for fantasy, Sookie Stackhouse, isn’t in every book we feature here, I would say that she is a good example of a character that could be pivotal in other genres. So- just for fun – what kind of genre story would you put Sookie in if it were up to you? Would she fly to the moon? Would she fight dragons? Actually, she would probably be the character who inspired the guy to fly to the moon or trained the guy who fought the dragon. Let’s just have a bit of fun and see what crazy ideas we can come up with for our Sookie to be in the middle of. Love is big for her, can she love in another genre? Tell me your story idea…
