Discovery by Kate GordonNinth Crossing: Discovery by Kate Gordon

Ninth Crossing is a new paranormal romance series from author Kate Gordon, and a welcome addition to the genre. The series starts with the first book: Discovery, which introduces the major characters. It certainly is not your usual elves and humans kind of paranormal romance story, and the strong female characters and exciting back story make this a great page turner of a tale.

You could not imagine a more completely modern woman than Reagan Sullivan. Named by her FBI Director Father after his beloved president, she has fulfilled many of his expectations. Smart, a Yale graduate who now works for the Secret Service, his only regret is she isn’t working at his old home base before he retired, the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

But Reagan loves her work protecting the Vice President and even with the demands on her time and life, she wouldn’t trade it. At thirty-one she is the youngest woman to ever head the VP security team, and she knows she is good at her job. When the team accompanies the VP to Norway for a conference, she doesn’t exactly expect to be kidnapped by a pair of six foot  tall and gorgeous elves. But before she knows it she is hip-deep in intrigue when she meets the Elven Queen of the Western Realm, who turns out to be her Great Grandmother, times five.

All is not calm in the world of elves or humans, and Reagan will face challenges like she has never known before, including one in the form of a very compelling man that will open her heart. The problem is, can she control her feelings and accept these new discoveries about herself? To what lengths will anyone go for the one they love? This is a paranormal romance that is about the true value of love.

ExtraNormal is a Unique Paranormal Romance

ExtraNormal by Suze ReeseExtraNormal by Suze Reese

This is not your run of the mill young adult paranormal romance by any way you would measure it. For starters, there are no vampires or werewolves because this romance is with an alien being. Now, generally when I have seen any kind of paranormal romance that has aliens in it, the alien was a guy who wowed the earth-girl. Not here – not by a long shot. And that is what makes Suze Reese’s novel so much fun.

Because this alien is a teenage girl, sent by her planet to “blend in” with the folks on earth, watch them without really mixing in and most of all, don’t get involved with any of the males of the species. This means don’t eat the food, or make friends and most of all don’t go falling in love. So, of course being a teenage girl even if she is from another planet and has weird abilities like harnessing electro-magnetic power, she has to break all the rules.

The scenes where she experiences things like ferris wheels and cheeseburgers are wonderful. But the best thing that happens to her is Jesse, an earth boy that she can’t help but fall in love with. Despite the warnings and her discovery that there is a price to pay for having a mate in her world, she finds that he is the boy for her. He will be for you too, because Jesse is delightful and the ending of the story was so fulfilling that it made the joy of the story all the better for it.

Vampire Interrupted Sizzles and Burns

Author: Lynsay Sands
Released:April 1, 2012
Pages: 336
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Lynsay Sands is just one of those authors who completely nails the concept of the paranormal romance in her Argeneau Vampires series. This sprawling series looks at a family of vampires over hundreds of years and each book spotlights a different couple, showing us their history and how they came together.

In this one, we meet Marguerite Argeneau, who has been a background character in many of the previous books. She has for the last seven hundred years been struggling to find herself and now she feels she is finally making some headway by starting with a new career, as a private investigator. She is on the quest for her very first assignment when she hits her first glitch.

Her client has asked her to track down his mother, not a small request when the client is an immortal. But she feels confident she is well on her way to delivering the news he wants when she wakes up one morning with a sword at her throat. This is when she first begins to understand that this job may be a bit more then she can handle.

Lucky for Marguerite she has a protector in the form of Julius Notte, who may not seem like one at the beginning but you will soon warm to him. Of course, so does Marguerite, for the two are destined to be soul mates. But first she has to overcome his need to stop her from fulfilling her assignment, and he must stop her from doing things that will get her killed.

As usual with a Sands book, Vampire Interrupted is a light hearted romance, though still one with vampires in it. I do like how she manages despite the dangers and action to keep the books feeling like the light romance they truly are. We know that these two are going to end up together, these books all have their HEA ending, but it is the fun in seeing it happen that makes the series so enjoyable. Oh – and you never have to have read any others in the series to enjoy them, although it is nice to do so as we get introduced to many of the couples in other books in the series. But with the whole hearted romance of a book like Vampire Interrupted you can also just sit back and enjoy.
